Channel 4 home of the GBBO – The Great British Bake Off – a nice entertaining programme – some interesting characters doing the baking and some very nice end produce but it is a programme that does not do very much for us here at Composite Door Prices – we deal in doors in fact some would say we are obsessed by them – unfortunately tents do not have doors which is where our interest ends

Apart from, just maybe, the fact that all the guys in the office decided that Ruby or Kim Joy could pop round to do their baking any time.

Another Channel 4 high flyer is “Grand Designs” with Kevin McCloud waxing lyrical about everything from foundations to Sphagnum moss roofs but although there are a lot of properties included in the series which means a lot of external front doors, rarely do they even get a mention unless they are some wonderful hand crafted design manufactured by some silent order of monks using distressed timber only found on the beaches of a single south sea atoll – never a mass manufactured door that we the normal everyday individual would purchase for our own homes.

Take for instance Lochside House the recently announced RIBA/Grand Design House of the Year for 2018 it’s a nice remote Scottish property or as Kevin lyrically describes it “This building has been tailored to its site. It’s been stitched and woven… seamed in to the tapestry of this place, and it is so much the better for it,” with a landscape and backdrop like this the Architect had as they say a “blank canvas” upon which to create

It is indeed a very nice building and the clever and constructive manner in which they have addressed the missing services upon which the majority of us depend, is indeed inventive, but, what about the front door – we have searched endless web sites for images and yet a photograph of the front door eludes us – the Royal Institution of British Architects own web site announcing the victory is typical nice words beautiful images – but no front door.
